The Journey
Growing up in Enugu, I watched my community struggle with waste management. Garbage piled up everywhere, affecting health and spoiling the beauty of our neighborhoods. I knew there had to be a better way, but I didn't know how to start.
The Wissen-Haus entrepreneurship module changed my perspective. It wasn't just theory—it was practical. I learned how to identify a problem, research solutions, develop a business plan, and pitch my idea. I spent weeks researching waste management solutions and how other entrepreneurs had tackled similar problems globally.
My idea was simple but powerful: collect waste from households, sort it, and either recycle it or convert it to useful products. EcoHub was born. But starting a business is incredibly challenging. I faced skeptics, funding challenges, and operational difficulties. That's where the Wissen-Haus community made all the difference.
Mentors helped me refine my business model, connect with potential investors, and navigate the regulatory landscape. When I wanted to give up (and there were many moments), the community kept me accountable and motivated. Today, EcoHub employs 50+ people, we're expanding to 5 states, and we've collected over 500 tons of waste.
But the impact goes beyond the numbers. We're proving that you can do good while building a sustainable business. We're creating jobs. We're reducing environmental degradation. We're showing young Nigerians that social entrepreneurship is a viable path."
