The Journey
I grew up believing that opportunities like Oxford scholarships were for people like me. My family had limited resources. I didn't have the connections or the money for special coaching. How could I possibly compete nationally or internationally?
Wissen-Haus Trade Fair changed my mindset. More importantly, mentors at Wissen-Haus believed in me. One mentor, herself an Oxford graduate, spent months helping me prepare my scholarship applications. She taught me that background doesn't determine potential. She helped me craft a compelling narrative around my challenges and how I'd overcome them.
I applied to multiple scholarships locally and internationally. The rejections stung, but mentors kept encouraging me. When I was accepted to Oxford with a full scholarship, I couldn't believe it. I remember calling my mentor in tears—happy tears.
Now, in my final year at Oxford studying AI, I'm already thinking about my next chapter. I want to return to Nigeria and work on AI solutions for African problems. The confidence Wissen-Haus gave me made all the difference. I learned that belief comes before achievement.
